My “why” is to add value to everything I do.

We cannot progress without each other.

We have the beautiful responsibility to leave future generations a better, fairer, and more diverse world.

Generations

What’s your
“why”?

“Transforming Lives for Generations” is the purpose of Boehringer Ingelheim that inspires the company’s more than 53,000 employees. In the summer of 2022 Boehringer Ingelheim asked its employees: What does our purpose mean to you personally, what’s your “why”? Here is what some of them answered.

My “why” is to add value to everything I do.

In my personal life, I want to leave a legacy of great values to my daughters. Professionally, I just celebrated 37 years working at Boehringer Ingelheim. My “why” is to add value to everything I do, with passion, courage, and honesty, and to improve human and animal health while caring for the environment.

We cannot progress without each other.

Let's help our children and grandchildren grow up in this world of a constant and rapid transformation. Let’s breathe life into the transmission from generation to generation, from grandmothers to grandchildren, from fathers to children, from doctors to patients, from teachers to pupils, from seniors to juniors, and let's be intergenerational. We complement each other and we cannot progress without each other. Let's put forward our values, let's explain why we do everything we can for a better life.

We have the beautiful responsibility to leave future generations a better, fairer, and more diverse world.

My “why” is about those who have departed leaving a legacy of wisdom and affection, like my mother. About those who left us early waiting for a medicine that would allow them to continue living, like my nephew. About those who remind us of the value of simplicity, honest work and that we are all worthy, like my 91-year-old father. And, being motivated by my daughter, also about future generations, because we have the beautiful responsibility to leave them a better, fairer and more diverse world.

Lives in my family were transformed by one of our products.

My “why” is my passion for my family, my passion to work for this progressive, innovative, and compassionate company. I am so impressed by the level of concern for human and animal patients as well as for employees. "Transforming Lives for Generations" has also a personal meaning for me: For past generations the females in my family have suffered with COPD. Fortunately, one of our products was available to provide some relief for my mom and aunt. Their lives were transformed by one of our products.

Boehringer Ingelheim is actively transforming the lives of generations of people I know and love.

I once shared my personal diabetes story at a conference. Generations have had the disease, and many died from it. My father has it, as well as my wife and I. So, with its work and products Boehringer Ingelheim is actively transforming the lives of generations of people I know and love.

I work in Animal Health and my 14-year-old Cocker Spaniel “Otis” is benefiting from Metacam and NexGard Spectra.

What drives me forward is the power of “little hands”.

What drives me forward is the power of “little hands”. Although small, they have tremendous strength to push us forward, embrace us and hold us close, and remain committed to families. These "little hands" all over the world expect a better future from us... and for more generations to come!

We need to take a holistic, sustainable, and long-term approach to meet our future patients’ needs.

To me, “Transforming Lives for Generations” means investing now into what will be needed in the future by our patients, our families, and future generations, as well as taking a holistic, sustainable, and long-term approach with our internal and external partners to meet our future patients’ needs. I am very proud of being part of this journey.

We can develop ourselves through experiential learning journeys to add to human, animal and environmental health.

My biggest reason to be at Boehringer Ingelheim is that we can develop ourselves through experiential learning journeys to add to human, animal and environmental health. For example, we support the important work of NGOs for children and adults in India or a similar program in Kenya. Another example is the Bag2theFuture project I lead with my colleagues where we aim to plant indigenous trees and vegetables to create biodiversity and wellbeing for the local community.

We leave a footprint in the history of mankind.

My motivation and purpose are to improve the health of humans and animals for our generation and for future generations, to shape the way they live with our current achievements in medical research. In doing so, we leave a footprint in the history of mankind, but also in countless individual histories of our patients.

My purpose is to create a better world for the next generations.

My purpose is to create a better world for the next generations. When my boys grow up to be adults, I want them to be able to live in a beautiful world: with clean air and intact nature, in good health and in culture where diversity is valued and respected. I like to think that my work will be a contribution to creating such a world where people have a full life without illnesses.

I want to help with all I do to develop new efficient and effective drugs.

I want to help with all I do to develop new efficient and effective drugs much faster than before as I lost some very dear family members recently to severe diseases where no effective treatment existed.

As we only have this one planet, my sincere dedication is also to make our life as sustainable as possible. This is the only way my kids and the following generations will be able to enjoy it as much as I have.

“Transforming Lives for Generations” means taking responsibility today.

“Transforming Lives for Generations” means taking responsibility today – for life on this planet, for humans, animals and plants. As a father I want to contribute to a healthy life on Earth, and we can only achieve this goal if we approach it with a systemic perspective. If we can live up to this ambition, we will truly be a healthcare company.
